On February 8th, 2024, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially declared a nationwide public holiday in preparation for the upcoming General Elections.
In a notification released today, the Election Commission has ensured that citizens across the country have sufficient time to actively participate in the electoral process by declaring the public holiday. Prior to this announcement, the Provincial Cabinet of Punjab had taken proactive measures by extending the holiday period for all educational institutions in the province.
From February 6th to February 9th, all public and private schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will remain closed, resulting in a six-day break, considering the closure of educational institutions from February 5th to February 9th.
February 5th is observed as Kashmir Day, a public holiday, and February 4th aligns with Sunday, traditionally a non-working day. These collaborative efforts by the Election Commission and the Provincial Cabinet of Punjab emphasize the significance of creating an environment conducive to democratic participation.
Through these measures, authorities aim to provide citizens with the necessary time and resources to actively engage in the electoral process, upholding democratic principles and ensuring a fair and transparent election.
As the nation anticipates the General Elections on February 8th, the focus is on the electorate to responsibly exercise their democratic rights, contributing to the democratic foundation of Pakistan.
