Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has declared early summer vacations for both public and private schools in response to the current heatwave conditions. The break will commence on May 25 and extend through May 31.
The move to initiate summer vacations earlier than planned was widely endorsed by parents, with a reported 96% in favor of the measure to shield children from the intense heat.
In a recent video address, Minister Hayat emphasized the critical need to prioritize the health and safety of students during this heatwave. He noted the strong support from parents for beginning the summer break this week.
“Our primary concern is the safety of our students. With the rising temperatures, proactive steps are essential to safeguard their health,” he commented.
Schools that are in the midst of conducting examinations are allowed to operate strictly for that purpose, provided they implement necessary safety measures.
The notification regarding the early vacation period was also issued.
Previously, the Punjab government had scheduled summer vacations from June 1 to August 14, anticipating the harsh heatwave.
