Omar Ayub Khan, Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has stepped down to focus on his role as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.
“I am grateful to PM Imran Khan for accepting my resignation as Secretary General PTI,” he shared on his official X handle on Thursday.
In his letter to PTI founder Imran Khan, Ayub expressed thanks for accepting his resignation, which he sent on June 22. Senator Shibli Faraz delivered Ayub’s message to the PTI founder at Adiala Jail.
Ayub noted his decision was due to his inability to fulfill both roles effectively. He also resigned as Chairman of the Central Finance Board.
This move comes amid reports of internal conflicts within PTI, with some lawmakers considering resigning from the National Assembly in protest against the party’s leadership.
Disgruntled leader Sher Afzal Marwat also called for Senator Shibli Faraz’s resignation, citing failures under the current leadership. He urged party members to support his demand for Faraz’s removal to revive the party’s effectiveness.
