The United States has issued a security alert regarding Pakistan’s upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8. Political parties are actively engaging in pre-election campaigning through marches, rallies, and speeches, which are standard democratic activities.
However, these public gatherings have the potential to cause disruptions such as traffic blocks and transportation issues, posing obstacles to free movement and safety. In the past, political activities in Pakistan have been subjected to violence.
U.S. citizens are urged to remain vigilant, stay informed about the locations of political rallies in areas they plan to visit, and exercise caution. On election day, February 8, the vicinity around polling stations may experience crowding, and U.S. citizens ineligible to participate in Pakistan’s elections are advised to steer clear of these areas.
